Experience THE WAVE:
The first deep-water wave at a watersports trade fair!

Riding high on the wave

Action, thrills and enthralling tournaments, combined with delighted faces and excited visitors - that’s the sum-up of the world premiere of the first deep-water wave at a watersports trade fair.

The figures speak for themselves: Over 100,000 trade fair visitors watched THE WAVE at boot Düsseldorf. Over 1,500 surfers even tried the wave out themselves, with more than 500 of these being children and young people in the boot4school programme. One element united each and every person that surfed THE WAVE - passion!
Zane Kekoa Schweitzer, the Hawaiian Stand Up Paddleboard professional athlete, who is used to astounding waves in his hometown, was as enthusiastic as the many visitors who had secured their place on our wave.

Highlight: The Contest with the Stars of International Surfing

On the first weekend of the run of the trade fair, the wave really rocked the boot. International Stand Up Paddleboard professional athletes put on a spectacular show for the visitors with the SUP Wave Masters.

Fiona Wylde (USA) and Airton Cozzolino (Cape Verde Islands) won the titles after fierce competition in the heats. On the second weekend, THE WAVE really got down to business. Renowned surfers delved deep to distinguish themselves and impress the jury. Supported by hundreds of visitors, the reigning European champion Janina Zeitler won out against Rosina Neuerer. Both women hail from Munich. In the men’s competition, Simon Bitterlich was victorious over Lenny Weinhold, a 15-year old up-and-coming talent.

Play now

In line with our Play Now campaign, we wanted to encourage as many visitors as possible to surf the wave on the spur of the moment. The slogan that most people abided by was “just join in”! An unbelievable amount was learned by many visitors, thanks to excellent instruction from the surfing teachers. After just a few minutes, most participants could stand up on the wave and were able to ride the wave in January, in the heart of Düsseldorf, in the middle of winter.

There will be all kinds of action there every day from 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.

Do I need to buy an admission ticket for THE WAVE?

No, THE WAVE is entirely free but you do need an admission ticket to the trade fair. You will be able to get tickets at the lowest prices online here.

When can I join in?

THE WAVE will be available to all visitors outside the contest periods. THE WAVE will be reserved for school classes on weekday mornings.

You haven’t booked a slot on THE WAVE yet?

Then sign in at THE WAVE in hall 2 between 10 - 11 o’ clock in the morning every day during the boot Düsseldorf from 21 to 29 of January and book a slot. We still have a few slots left in all skill levels every day.

How long does a slot last?

Slots last for exactly 45 minutes, so there is enough time to do a lot of surfing. There will be 12 surfers taking turns during each slot on THE WAVE. So you'll have the wave all to yourself until you fall into the water or you are unable to continue, then the next person in line gets to surf.

I don't want to get into the water. Can I still join in?

Yes, you can join in as a spectator! Just turn up and enjoy the show. There are comfortable seats to chill out and admire the action on THE WAVE.

When can I watch the professional contests?

There will be several rounds and therefore sufficient opportunity to see the best surfers on the scene do what they do best. The details can be found here.

Will I need my own equipment?

No, we have got everything you will need at the venue, so you can enjoy the wave without a lot of effort.

Will I need special clothing?

Just bring your swimming gear and a towel with you.

Will there be changing rooms for visitors at the fair?

Yes, they will be located right next to reception at THE WAVE.

I have never been on a surfboard, can I really join in?

Yes, of course! The wave is also suitable for beginners. Just book an appropriate slot here. The wave will then be smaller and slower and there will be a bar that you will be able to hold on to. With the proper instruction, you'll be riding the wave freehand in no time at all.

Is THE WAVE suitable for children?

Yes, THE WAVE is always great fun for children. Children from the age of eight may join in. Helmets are required up to the age of 12, we can also provide these. The waves' speed and size are adjustable.
