Flashback 2017

THE WAVE attracted 100,000 visitors to boot Düsseldorf in January 2017. More than 1,500 surfers tried it out for themselves. It thrilled them just as much as it did the professional surfers during the contests. And so much fun just naturally cries out for a repeat.

Highlight: The Contest with the Stars of International Surfing

International top stars from the field will also be visiting us again at THE WAVE in 2018.

When and where can I experience THE WAVE?

You can find THE WAVE in Hall 8a, where it will be open between 10 am and 6 pm every day during the entire run of the trade fair (20 to 28 January 2018).

Do I need to buy an admission ticket for THE WAVE?

No, THE WAVE is entirely free but you do need an admission ticket to the trade fair. You can find the best prices in the online ticket shop.

How can I get involved?

You can book a place online if you want to get on the board at THE WAVE. Here, on THE WAVE site, we are giving away beginner and advanced slots at the end of November, in December and in January. Don’t miss the reserving periods for these! Follow our Facebook page or check the site regularly. You’ve still got some options at boot Düsseldorf if you don’t manage to reserve a place.

Those who have yet to make up their minds could still win a participant place at the trade fair. You need to make sure that you register for this before 3 pm in Hall 12 to be in with a chance. We’ll raffle off places for the last surf slot on that day, and we’ll draw five winners from all the latecomers.

Can I also book places on-site again?

No, this year we’re raffling off the 5 remaining places for each day at THE WAVE. The others will be given away online in the weeks leading up to boot Düsseldorf. Check the site regularly or like our Facebook page to ensure that you are kept up to date on the online bookings.

When can I join in?

THE WAVE is open to visitors every day. There are just a few exceptions. On the weekends, short competitions for professionals will take place, and during the week schools can take the opportunity to go surfing in the morning.

How many times can I experience THE WAVE?

We want to give as many visitors as possible the chance to try out THE WAVE. This means that all participants can only book one slot on THE WAVE each.

How long does a slot last?

Slots last for exactly 40 minutes, so there is enough time to do a lot of surfing. There will be 12 surfers taking turns during each slot on THE WAVE. So you'll have the wave all to yourself until you fall into the water, or you are unable to continue, then the next person in line gets to surf.

I don't want to get into the water. Can I still join in?

Yes, you can join in as a spectator! Just turn up and enjoy the show. There are comfortable seats to chill out and admire the action on THE WAVE.

When can I watch the professional contests?

There will be several rounds and therefore sufficient opportunity to see the best surfers on the scene do what they do best. The SUP Wave Masters gets going from 20 to 21 January 2018, and surfers can find all their hearts’ desires at the Wave Masters on 27 and 28 January 2018. You can find more detailed information here.

Will I need my own equipment?

No, we have got everything you will need at the venue, so you can enjoy the wave without a lot of effort. We will require a small deposit from you for renting out equipment, but this will be returned to you immediately after surfing.

Will I need special clothing?

Just bring your swimming gear and a towel with you.

Will there be changing rooms for visitors at the fair?

Yes, they will be located right next to reception at THE WAVE.

I have never been on a surfboard, can I really join in?

Yes, of course! The wave is also suitable for beginners. Simply book yourself a beginners’ slot for THE WAVE. The wave will then be smaller and slower and there will be a bar that you will be able to hold on to. With the proper instruction, you'll be riding the wave freehand in no time at all.

Is THE WAVE suitable for children?

Yes, THE WAVE is always great fun for children. Children from the age of eight may join in. Helmets are required up to the age of 12. We can provide these for you at THE WAVE.
